WOW. This is absolutely extraordinary, Elaine. It’s sharp, insightful, horrifying, heart breaking, revelatory, and still made me laugh out loud in a couple of places. I’ve read it 4 times now and each time, my reaction is equally profound. You are growing exponentially as an artist and a VOICE with each comic you create. It could not be clearer that God hand picked you for this, girl…I love you and am so proud of you for saying YES. Thank you for sharing these jewels of the heart with all of us.

Thank you so much, Michele. Your support and feedback means a lot. Focusing on comics has been a relief in the midst of everything else being in transition. They just feel right when I’m doing them–that is, there I am, just drawing and writing. Love that “just is” feeling. Love to you. Lots and lots of love!

i remember hearing you read this in Providence, and feeling the prick of tears in my eyes. i remember that every poem read after this one was a wash that never truly took the impression of it away.

Thank you, Kate. I’m glad you were there with me. This comic was an interesting experiment–I’d thought of this poem a few days ago and realized I thought it could be presented in comic form, even if the poem alone doesn’t make that obvious. It took me a little while to get the guts up to try though, so I’m glad you were here with me (both in the reading in Providence, and here on the comics blog) to see how each version works. Love you!!!
